Workshop on MR Service Providers Program

RHSTEP Organized a day-long Workshop on “Effective Utilization of MR Training by Service Providers” at Rangpur RDRS venue on 30 May 2010. The participants of this25year Workshop were 200 selected FWVs, FWAs, SACMOs, Village Doctors, TFPO, ADCC, MO Rangpur Medical College, Assistant Professors of Gyne /Obs, Consultant Gyne /Obs, Senior Professors of Gyne /Obs, Rangpur Medical College Hospital, Civil Surgeon, Rangpur, Principal Rangpur Medical College, local Journalists et cetera. It was also attend by Vice President of the Executive Council as well as Executive Director , Director and other officials of the Central Office, RHSTEP. Besides the personnel responsible for management and administration of RHSTEP centers at Rajshahi, Dinajpur and Rangamati partook in the Workshop.The Workshop was adorned and highlighted by the presence of Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rauf Principal Rangpur Medical College Hospital as Chief Guest Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim ,Civil Surgeon, Rangpur as Special Guest coincide by the kind presence of Prof. Dr. Azizul Islam, former Principal , Rangpur Medical College Hospital as Guest of Honour. All honorable participants who worked as resource persons highly appreciated this type of Workshops being undertaken by RHSTEP.

Quazi Suraiya Sultana, Executive Director of RHSTEP welcomed the participants. In her inaugural address she explained the Objectives of RHSTEP with special emphasis on reaching the doorsteps of the masses dwell in the remote pockets and are deprived of adequate health facilities specially SRHR services, Pathology tests, screening cervical smears, BCC and Planned parenthood, RHSTEP has been providing adequate needed services to those are in need with the help of Govt. through delivery of pragmatic adequate services and capacity building training being imparted to Service providers. Dr. Luna Chakma, Manager Programme (PMT) exhibited RHSTEP activities by using multimedia . Prof. Dr. Azizul Islam, former Principal , Rangpur Medical College Hospital in his address expounded the prevailing maternal health situation- rates of mortality and morbidity in Bangladesh . He requested the Principal, Rangpur Medical College Hospital for providing additional space to accommodate the dire public exigencies devolve on RHSTEP within the precincts of Rangpur Medical College Hospital . The Vice President of the Executive Council of RHSTEP Mr. Mijanur Rahman Bhuyan FCA reiterated the need of more spaces. Dr. Ferdousi Sultana, Senior Professor of Gyn. /Obs. Rangpur MCH, Chairperson and Technical Advisor of RHSTEP concluded the Workshop Session with a vote of thanks. She thanked the Chief Guest, Special Guests, the participants and all others whose effort had made the Program a success.

The Workshop for FWVs elicited the recommendations for :

•  More refresher MR training

•  Training on RTI/STI

•  Orientation training on ASRHR; and also requested for Accommodation facilities during the training period.

25yearQuazi Suraiya Sultana, Executive Director RHSTEP exhorted the FWAs to make extensive and intensive door to door domiciliary visits . This will, as a matter fact, positively contribute in reducing maternal mortality and morbidity and arrest of unwanted population boom at different levels. Besides she urged them to meet with cross- section of people , attend the workshops develop new strategies in approaches to the masses by the service providers. She implored the service providers (FWVs and other categories engaged in service deliveries) to get-in-touch with RHSTEP and cooperate to promote SRHR, gender equity, equality of women, peer understanding and empowerment of women in all spheres of life and livelihood. At last but not the least, she asked for adequate collaboration and co-operation of the service providers to achieve the MDGs and the targets of PRSP as set by the Government of Bangladesh.
