  Executive Director’s Message

25year

Reproductive Health Services Training and Education Program (RHSTEP) is dedicated to improving the reproductive health status of women, men and adolescents of Bangladesh thus contributing towards achieving the goals of MDG and PRSP in Bangladesh. Since its inception in 1983 RHSTEP is supplementing and complimenting the programs of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in reducing maternal mortality and morbidity.

Mandated to serve mostly the underserved population, RHSTEP has reached near the heart of the clients who want to prevent unwanted pregnancies and seek relief from the curses of unsafe and complicated abortions. Moreover, RHSTEP is addressing other RH needs of women and adolescents.

Having a good network of good service delivery system of 35 clinics and outreach centres throughout Bangladesh, RHSTEP has reached to the doorstep of clients to deliver quality SRH services and follow-ups. Annually, approximately 600,000 clients are visiting RHSTEP centers for different reproductive health services that prove the quality and level of client satisfaction towards our services. This feedback is inspiring us to serve our best to our clients.

RHSTEP is also engaged in capacity building of service providers of government, NGO and private organizations in menstrual regulation, prevention of unsafe abortions and management of complicated abortions. Annually 650 service providers (Doctors/Paramedics/nurses/ SACMOs) are getting quality training from RHSTEP centers.

RHSTEP is a unique example of GO-NGO collaboration in Bangladesh. Being located in the government hospital premises, RHSTEP centers are monitored and supervised by GOB experts both in program and quality perspectives which is helping RHSTEP in implementing its targeted activities and in achieving the goals.

In this context, our sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Directorate General of Health Services, Directorate General of Family Planning, Civil Surgeons, Deputy Directors - Family Planning and other goverment health officials for their continuous guidance and support for implementation of programs. We are especially thankful to the Directorate of Family Planning for ensuring uninterrupted supply of logistics and contraceptives to the centers.

We are highly grateful to the Goverment of Sweden through Sida for their continuous support in our programs. Without valuable support from Sida it would be impossible to continue this great effort by RHSTEP in reducing maternal mortality and morbidity in Bangladesh. Moreover, visits of dignitaries from Sweden and other EU member countries to RHSTEP clinics acted as inspiration and guidance for us. We are very much grateful to the Hon'ble Ambassador of Sweden in Bangladesh, officials of the Embassy and Sida for their valuable guidance and assistance.

We are grateful to our Executive Council for their continuous guidance in the process of implementation of the project activities. Taking this opportunity I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to my colleagues at head office and at centers across the country for their highly committed contribution to programs.

We hope to engage ourselves in future in a wider range of responsibility in improving health status of the people of Bangladesh and dedicate ourselves to the cause of humanity.

With best wishes,

Quazi Suraiya Sultana
Executive Director
