Sida Supported SRHR Promotion Project of SRHR consortium Launched in Dhaka
Speaking at the launching ceremony of Promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR): Provisioning of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services focusing on safe MR and reduction in Bangladesh. Ms. Isabella Lövin , Minister for International Development Cooperation, Sweden lauded the strong collaboration between the Government of Bangladesh and the Government of Sweden in the field of SRHR. She specially appreciated that this effort has led to the decrease in Maternal Mortality due to unsafe abortion. Minister Lövin highlighted that the ICPD programme of action is as relevant today as ever before and concerted efforts must continue to implement the unfinished agenda of ICPD. H.E Mr. Johan Frisell, the ambassador of sweden said that Sweden has long history of working in the development sector with the government of Bangladesh. He emphasized that Bangladesh needs to actively focus on the prevention of child marriage. The Swedish Ambassador stressed that issues must be addressed holistically with multispectral collaboration. He assured that Sweden will remain in the forefront of defending and promoting SRHR.
The Launching event was participated by the members of the Bangladesh Parliament, Honourable Fazilatunnessa Indira, MP and Honouarable Waseka Ayesha Khan, MP among others. The launching event was orgaised by RHSTEP and BAPSA with support from the Embassy of Sweden, Dhaka. Ms. Quazi Suraiya Sultana, Executive Director of RHSTEP welcomed everyone to the launching and sought support to carry forward the activities in SRHR in the future. Dr. Altaf Hossain, Director, BAPSA made a presentation highlighting the 25 years of collaboration between Bangladesh government and the RH consortium in the field of SRHR.
