On 18 June 2026, RHSTEP Aparajeyo Tarunno (UYP) successfully organized the “Disability Inclusive Health Initiative Program” with the aim of promoting disability rights, raising awareness about neurodiversity, and encouraging a more inclusive and accepting society for all individuals.
The event began with a welcome address by Mohammad Abu Raihan, Project Manager of RHSTEP UYP, who emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and creating environments where diversity is respected and celebrated.
Following the opening remarks, participants took part in an engaging ice-breaking session designed to encourage interaction beyond traditional gender identities and social labels. Through a series of team-based activities, participants explored the value of individuality and inclusion. The session highlighted the importance of recognizing and celebrating every person’s unique identity, regardless of gender, ability, or neurological differences.
During the discussion segment, Aktarin Khair Tarin, Senior Program Officer of UYP, addressed the topics of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She highlighted the challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals within society and discussed how misconceptions often lead to stigma and exclusion.
She noted that children with ADHD are frequently perceived negatively due to their high energy levels and behavioral differences, resulting in unrealistic expectations and social pressures being placed upon them. Her presentation encouraged participants to adopt a more empathetic and informed perspective toward neurodivergent individuals.
