On Saturday, 13 June 2026, RHSTEP Aparajeyo Tarunno Chattogram Center organized an awareness event titled “Disability-Inclusive Health: A Right for All-2” to promote equal access to healthcare services for persons with disabilities.
The program was presided over by Project Officer Apu Dashgupta of Aparajeyo Tarunno, Chattogram Center. The discussion featured Dr. Habib Al Mujahid, Medical Officer, Southern Medical College and Hospital, and Farida Akter, representative of a disability-focused NGO organization. The session was moderated by Mentor Tofatul Jannat.
Speakers emphasized that healthcare is a fundamental human right and that no form of discrimination is acceptable in accessing services. They highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by persons with disabilities, including inadequate infrastructure, lack of accessible information, and social stigma or misconceptions, which often prevent them from receiving proper healthcare.
The discussion stressed the importance of building a truly inclusive healthcare system, where healthcare providers are trained and sensitized about disability inclusion. Essential accessibility measures such as ramps, wheelchair-accessible facilities, suitable toilets, visual and audio guidance for persons with disabilities, and information in simple language, Braille, and audio formats were highlighted as critical requirements.
Participants agreed that improving disability-inclusive healthcare requires collaborative efforts from families, communities, and institutions, along with stronger government and NGO coordination, policy implementation, awareness building, and the use of technology.
Following the discussion session, a group activity session was conducted with participant representatives to encourage engagement and practical understanding of inclusive health concepts.
Overall, the event reinforced the message that a strong and inclusive healthcare system can only be built when every individual is treated with equal dignity, rights, and access to essential services.
