RHSTEP’s Unlocking Youth Potential (UYP) – Aparajeyo Tarunno, in collaboration with Women’s Cine Film Federation, organized “Empowering Women and Marginalized Communities Through Film” on 18 September 2026, promoting inclusive representation and opportunities for marginalized communities to share their own stories.
The program opened with remarks from Mohammad Abu Raihan, Project Manager, Aparajeyo Tarunno, followed by screenings of three short films created by young people from Korail and Mironjhilla—“Aditi,” “Spider,” and “Asma.” An inclusive film session explored the importance of women’s and marginalized communities’ representation in cinema and the value of enabling people to tell their own stories.
A panel discussion featured filmmaker Nargis Akhter, Kazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Founder of Together We Can, and Nazia Afrin Monami, Associate Professor at ULAB. The discussion highlighted women’s diverse representation, women’s participation in filmmaking, and the importance of creating storytelling opportunities for persons with disabilities and marginalized communities. The session was moderated by Aktanin Khayer Tanin, Senior Program Officer, Aparajeyo Tarunno.
The program also featured group dance and music performances by adolescents from the Mironjhilla Harijan Colony, providing young participants with a platform to showcase their creativity and cultural expression. The event concluded with a patriotic group song, reinforcing the program’s message of inclusion, representation, creative expression, and youth participation.
